If you are ever getting ready to install SCCM 2007 R2, specifically SP1 or SP2 on Server 2008 R2 (note that SCCM needs to be on SP2 to be supported on @008 R2), then pay attention to this tidbit…
Your install of the Management Point WILL fail and you will get a message similar to this:
Product: SMS Management Point — Error 25006. Setup was unable to create the Internet virtual directory CCM_Incoming… (blah, blah and including error code 80070005)
Hopefully you got to this note before spending hours or days looking for a solution, but as arcane as it seems the fix is simple.
Browse to your Windows installation folder on the SCCM server. Typically it is C:\Windows but to be sure paste in %WINDIR% in your run dialog box. Then right click and select properties on the Tasks folder and select the Security tab. Click the Edit button then then in the next dialog click on Administrators in the list at the top of the dialog box. Then give that group Full Control and click on the two OK buttons.
That’s it! If you have already installed the role on the site system, remove it, wait for the uninstall and then install it again… or run MP.msi from the SCCM folder in the C:\Program Files (x86) folder.
Oh, yeah… don’t forget… pay it forward!
